PREPOSITION

Preposition (kata depan) adalah kata yang dihubungkan dengan kata lain sehingga mempunyai arti tersendiri.

Preposisi dalam bahasa inggris adalah: in, at, on, of, for, from, to, into, by, with, without, about, after, before, above, over, under, below, beneath, inside, outside, beside, besides, near, behind, opposite, across, along, alongside, toward, between, among, round (around), via, versus, during, until, etc.

Contoh :

I live in Jakarta.

I live on Banana street.

I live at Gang Banana 10.

Aturan penempatan preposisi :

1.      Preposisi + gerund

2.      Preposisi + kata benda

3.      Preposisi + kata sifat

4.      Preposisi + kata kerja

5.      Preposisi + object + kata kerja.

CONJUNCTION

Conjunction (kata sambung / penghubung) adalah kata yng berfungsi untuk menghubungkan satu kalimat dengan beberapa kalimat .

Contoh conjunction : for, as, because, but, and, or, if, although, dll.

Conjunction dibagi menjadi :

1.      Subordinating conjunction

Berfungsi untuk menghubungkan antar induk kalimat dengan anak kalimat.

Contoh :

Because he was sleepy, he went to bed.

He went to bed because he was sleepy.

2.      Coordinating conjunction

Berfungsi untuk menggabungkan dua kalimat yang berkedudukan sama.

Contoh coordinating conjunction : and, for, yes, so, or.

3.      Correlative conjunction

Kata hubung yang berpasangan yang menyatukan 2 item.

Contoh :

Not only my sister but also my brother are in Jogja.
